Last night I returned home after a four day hospital stay, resulting from a sudden attack of vertigo while walking on the boardwalk near my home. Fortunately, my girl friend quickly responded to my request for help and stayed with me while I was seen in the emergency room, then moved to the hospital for further evaluation.
I feel fine now, but now have a few daily pills to take in addition to my usual regimen of vitamins. Since I live a very healthy lifestyle in what I eat and how I stay active, it’s a bit worrisome to suddenly be dealing with a potentially serious health condition. It was also challenging to change suddenly from a very busy work life to a situation where I would have little to do all day except whatever I could do to entertain myself from my cell phone.
But I’m gratified to be home again, especially after realizing that I did so much better than many of the other patients around me at the hospital. My life will hopefully go on as it was, with maybe a few slight adjustments. Not everyone is that lucky.
Thanks to my partner Lisa and to my friends Jeff and David for their continuing support, and to my many co-workers at GetSetUp who sent me healing wishes. Perhaps the way I strive to live my life helped prevent what might have been a more serious result. But it’s a sober reminder that even if you try to make all the right choices, there’s no guarantee that you will experience continued good health.
