I’m Back – It’s Been An Eventful Year

It’s been almost a year since I’ve updated this blog. So let me bring you up to date:

  1. The problem that started last June when I suddenly found myself in the hospital came back in January when I was again hospitalized, this time while I was spending the winter in Florida with my partner. This time, however, I connected with an ‘interventional neurologist’ who quickly arranged for surgery which so far has prevented a recurrence.
  2. Unfortunately I have experienced some other medical issues, some which are still going on. After many years of being healthy, it has been a difficult transition to suddenly dealing with multiple problems, some which have been hard to resolve.
  3. I’ve had the pleasure of continuing my work with older adults at GetSetUp, which is now reaching people around the world with daily online programs, including my weekday morning social hour Good Morning America.
  4. I have successfully moved into a new apartment in my area in Long Beach, NY. It took several months to finalize the purchase and make the move (including some renovations), but it has been a wonderful change. (Thanks to my partner Lisa who made the move much easier.)
  5. Lisa and I recently were diagnosed with COVID-19. Fortunately, our symptoms were minor. (Lisa was also recovering from surgery at the same time.) I was able to continue my work for GetSetUp from home.
  6. I’ve continued my work with the Virtual Senior Center, an initiative of SelfHelp. My most recent online discussion was ‘What to Do This Summer.’
  7. As I’m sure has been the case with many others, I’ve attended multiple funerals this spring (not COVID-related) including members from my synagogue and a brother of my partner’s long term friend.

I am gratified to have managed through multiple changes, some planned or some not, and having had the support of my partner and my friends.

  1. Enjoyed May 26 2022 blog and others too. Never done blog but interested in
such. Take care, be active and be social – you know the drill. Thanks, Earl Newberg, GSU learner.

  2. While surfing on web, happened to find your May blog. I enjoy GMA and try to attend when I can. With golf couple times a week and other stuff, I really only attend about once a week. I like the ways you balance the conversation letting everyone have a chance to talk.

In addition. It has been good to know you by virtual means. I intend to keep coming to GMA and keeping in touch.

  3. Miss you Norman- Life has a way of twisting and turning–
Thinking of you and all the good work you do! I know I certainly was helped by GMA. Perhaps I will reconnect on that site with you again someday —-if not take care and always know I was one of many you have connected with when I needed a connection.
