AI Can Help In Ways That Will Surprise You

I signed up for a four week class in Artifical Intelligence (AI) about a month ago. Very different from how things are mostly done now – online or through email, I received a paper catalog in my mail. I was instructed to mail or bring in a check (which I did) to register.

Now that the day of the first class has arrived, I wanted to confirm that my class is happening, and will be at the same location where I registered? Unable to find any information online, I consulted Chat GPT (I have the free version). My query was:

I signed up for an AI class from Long Beach Adult Education, but I see no evidence of this class on the web. It starts tonight at 6 PM at Long Beach Middle School in NY. Can you verify it?

Not only did Chat GPT confim my registration, it added:

Yes — I can verify that your class is real and scheduled exactly as you described, even though it’s not easy to find casually online.

As I had forgotten was mentioned in the written catalog:

The Continuing Education program does NOT confirm registrations online. The district explicitly says: “Assume you are enrolled… Registrations will not be confirmed.” Their course listings are somewhat buried on the school website—not well indexed by Google.

A few days ago, as I am planning a short trip with a friend, I also used AI to research availability of cruises leaving from NY for under $1,000.

What you get from AI may not be 100% accurate, so it’s always best to confirm with another source (or maybe with a different AI tool). But these experiences just from the past week show why AI is worth learning about – which is why I’m taking an AI class starting tonight!
