But my work improving the lives of older adults will continue.
In my post last year What Comes Next for Us, I was preparing for a life after full time work ends. Fortunately, I started a job managing the Social Adult Day Program at Sunnyside Community Services last September. This program is designed for those who have early dementia but who still want to be involved in a social setting with other people. I will retire from this role on Aug. 16, 2024, but my work helping older adults will continue:
- Leading a Sunday morning discussion group for GetSetUp
- Leading a monthly group for Selfhelp’s Virtual Senior Center
- Co-hosting weekly classes for Senior Planet
- Monthly tech help visits for Search and Care and Digital Grandparents
- Starting in September, leading a Well Connected group for Front Porch to share how to have a fulfilling life in our older years. I will also continue weekly telephone check-ins as part of the Well Connected program
- Occasional intergenerational volunteer activities with DOROT
I have mixed emotions about beginning my ‘new life,’ but am thankful for others who continue to offer encouragement.
