On Nov. 10 and Nov. 17 I had the pleasure of presenting How Your Later Years Can Be Your Best Years for the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (virtually, of course). I am especially grateful for my guest speakers, Betsy Abramson, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging, and renowned anti-ageism activist and author Ashton Applewhite. My presentations can be downloaded below.
In session 1, I reviewed the work of Professor Becca Levy in showing how our attitude about aging directly affects our experience in our later years, (which I also discussed in an earlier blog post) and introduced the topic of ageism.
In session 2, I focused on how we can deal with ageism, particularly within ourselves, and completed a list of 10 tips on how to age well.
Thanks to Susan Lechter, Director of the newly launched Wechsler Center for Modern Aging, who gave me this opportunity to deliver a positive message to older adults during this very challenging time.
