While Thanksgiving will be very different for us this year, what remains the same is our annual reminder to focus on what we have to be grateful for. The pandemic has changed everything, especially for older adults who have represented a large portion of those who have the virus. But even here, there is an opportunity to be grateful.
For those of us who have been fortunate enough to reach our later years, we have also accumulated much wisdom and have made it through other challenging experiences. OK, the pandemic is like nothing else we have been through, but most of us will make it through to the other side.
For those of us who have lost family members and friends – and for many who will continue to do so well into 2021, I do not wish to minimize or lessen your loss. So sorry for what you have had experienced; I know a vaccine will be of little comfort since it won’t bring back those you have lost.
As much as you can this holiday, take a moment and be grateful for what you have, even if you have struggled during this very difficult year. By focusing on what is good in our lives, we will be happier and will attract more good in the future. If you are lucky enough to have your health, a comfortable place to live and enough food to eat, then you already have the greatest gifts of all.
Happy Thanksgiving!
